Eco Print Road Trip - Wild West Tour

This Eco Print Road Trip is taking me out west to tour the stunning states of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Wyoming with our camper in tow. I am lovingly calling it "The Wild West Tour." Our adventure is packed with scenic landscapes, rugged terrains, and a tons of natural treasures just waiting to be captured through eco printing.

Each state offers unique flora and natural wonders, making every stop an exciting new opportunity for experimentations and creativity. From the vibrant desert blooms of Arizona to the majestic red rocks of Utah, the wild beauty of Wyoming, and the enchanting allure of New Mexico, every print tells a story of the place it was created.

As we travel, I'll be sharing my process of creating eco print images using native plants in the area.  My "Eco Print Road Trip Kit" ensures that all the essentials travel with me, easily packed into a duffel bag, ready for spontaneous creativity.

Our first stop on the Wild West Tour was the culturally rich city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santa Fe's art scene is impressive, ranking just behind New York City for the number of galleries in town. It was exhilarating to immerse myself in such a vibrant and artistic atmosphere. Getting outdoors was beautiful as we visited the Sandia Mountains, and the La Cieneguilla Petroglyphp Site.

We spent significant time in The Railyard Art District, exploring its diverse galleries and exhibitions, before making our way to the downtown Plaza area. The dynamic vibe of Canyon Road, with its eclectic mix of galleries and studios, left an indelible mark on my creative spirit.

Aspen eco print by Debbie Alley

For my eco print practice I was excited to find Aspen in the Sandia Mountain area and had very pretty results with these tiny leaves.  Aspen is native to higher elevations and doesn't grow in East Tennessee. I was excited to use it in my practice.  The results are so fresh and simple and I can't wait to add them to a future collection.

Russian Olive eco printed by Debbie Alley

I had fun experimenting with colored card stock between my ceramic tiles to add the beautiful colors of Santa Fe to my pieces. These prints of Aspen and Russian Olive add their own distinctive pattern and hue to the final pieces.

I'm creating my eco print images right at our RV site using just a few simple ingredients that are easily found in grocery stores or thrift shops. If you're interested in learning how to eco print on paper with me, you can download my "Eco Print Road Trip Kit" and start today! This kit includes a complete supply list for getting started with eco printing, as well as a recipe for the dye bath used for simmering the prints.

Using this simple and portable kit, I've had a lot of fun eco printing in my backyard and experimenting in various locations. Everything fits conveniently in my duffel bag, making it easy to hit the road and create beautiful prints wherever I go.
