The marks started to tell a story when I stepped back, so I added words around the petals. Those handwritten fragments became the rose’s voice — the literal language of the flower.

"Language of the Flower" is 11 x 14 inches, mixed media on watercolor paper: charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, and ink. I build layers with washes and stencils, draw with loose graphite and pen, then break and overwrite lines to get texture and depth.

The palette is calm with small pops of orange and pink for warmth. It’s quiet, peaceful work — a little conversation between the marks and me.
